Funding

The Board has two primary sources of Income:

  • The direct rating of all agricultural land and buildings;
  • Special levy payments received from local authorities, which reflect the extent of other property in the drainage district.

In addition to these primary sources of Income the Board:

  • Seeks contributions from developers where proposals necessitate either immediate or future improvement to the drainage system;
  • Invests temporary cash surpluses on the short-term money market, by lending money to any of the 'top 40' Building Societies, through a Regulated Investment Broker;
  • Seeks rental payments from tenanted land and licence fees from licensed rights, which the Board owns;
  • Provides limited consultancy/contractual services;
  • Seeks grant aid from DEFRA towards the cost of 'approved' capital works.
